Steven Ray Rains, 75, of Newkirk, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday, November 8, 2025, in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Steven was born to Raymond Orville Rains and Adda Louise (Scruggs) Rains on May 11, 1950, in Arkansas City, Kansas. Steven attended Cowley County Community College for two years, studying Welding Technology. Steven also served in the Kansas National Guard for six years.
Steven married his wife of 54 years, Christi A. (Crowley) Rains, on January 4, 1971, in Medford, Oklahoma.
Steven worked for the APCO/Total Refinery as a Tier 1 Rotating Engine Mechanic in Arkansas City, Kansas. He later moved to Newkirk, Oklahoma in 1986, and began working for Conoco-Phillips.
Steven enjoyed working on classic muscle cars, and with his sons and brother. He loved his animals, especially his dogs.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Orvale Rains, Adda Louise Scruggs Rains Chapman, and his stepfather Robert LeRoy Chapman, and his grandparents, Orville and Alta Rains, and Claude and Inez Scruggs.
Steven is survived by his wife, Christi Rains, of Newkirk, Oklahoma; in-laws: Martha Steckman, Charles E. Steckman, and Frieda White; sons: Douglas Rains and Eric Rains; three brothers: Danny Chapman, and brothers-in-law Gary Odens and Zach Hettenbach; three sisters-in-law: Dana Williams, Cherri Odens, and Shannon Hettenbach; grandchildren: Emily Rains, Zac Rains, Cooper Rains, Parker Rains, Aaron Budin, and Izzy Strassel; nieces and nephews: Kim Dalbeck, Bryan Dalbeck, Maja Dalbeck, Jaxson Dalbeck, Kelli Holloway, Layla Jones, and Ruby Hettenbach; as well as many cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 pm, Friday, November 21, 2025, in the Blackwell Tabernacle. Services to be officiated by Rev. Cliff Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Blackwell Tabernacle Missions program for Overseas Missionaries, or Youth Evangelism.
