Sharon McElveen
December 25, 1941 — July 16, 2025
Sharon Kay (Spencer) McElveen was born December 25, 1941, in Hardtner, Kansas to Henry Leonard Spencer and Hazel Naomi (Holt) Spencer. She was the second of four Children, Becky, Sharon, Terry, and Anita.
On the bright sunny morning of Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at the physical age of 83 years, 6 months, and 16 days, Sharon’s Eternal Spirit departed the bounds of this Earth to be with her Savior Jesus and loved ones.
Her youth in the 1940’s was spent with her family on a wheat and cattle farm near Hardtner, Kansas and a dairy farm near Mulhall, Oklahoma in the 1950’s. As a youngster, Sharon would help pick fruits from the orchard and vegetables from the garden. Watermelon and Cantaloupe were her favorites. She attended schools in Hardtner, Kansas, Mulhall and Capron, Oklahoma, riding old time school buses on obscure county back roads to tiny rural towns. On very muddy days the bus could be delayed for hours. The family moved to Alva, Oklahoma after selling the dairy farm. Sharon continued her schooling but no in town bus meant mom or dad had to drive the children each morning.
In the early 1960’s while working for Pangburn’s Restaurant and Lodging of Alva, Oklahoma, Sharon met her future husband, David McElveen of Tampa, Florida. David worked with a tree trimming and removal company crew, assisting storm damaged areas. Severe weather in Northwest Oklahoma brought David from Florida to Alva. They began dating and soon were wed. They spent most of their marriage in and around Enid, Oklahoma. To this union were born three sons, Paul, Robert, and Mark. In total, Sharon and David raised five children. David’s son Jeff, and daughter Teal, soon joined the newlyweds, with the three boys later completing the family.
Sharon is survived by her sons, Paul McElveen and wife Elaine, and Mark McElveen; brother, Terry Spencer and wife Sue of Park City, Kansas; sister, Anita Jacobson of Alva, Oklahoma; as well as numerous grandchildren and extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, David McElveen; son, Robert McElveen; Grandson, Conner McElveen; Stepson Greg McElveen; parents Leonard and Hazel Spencer; sister, Becky Betchan; and brothers-in-law, Frank Betchan and Steve Jacobson.
Sharon seldom complained of life struggles. When asked, “How are you doing?”, her usual response was “So Far, So Good!”. Family meant everything to her. She was loved by many and is greatly missed!
