Obituary for Winfred Haney

Winferd James “Winny” Haney of Stillwater, Oklahoma, died Sunday evening, March 23, 2014, at his home at the age of 83 years.

Winferd James “Winny” Haney was born on November 28, 1930, in Porum, Oklahoma, to William Lee and Willie May (Stephens) Haney. He attended school in the Briartown and Nowata districts. In 1947 he moved to Blackwell and began working at the Acme Foundry. In 1952 he entered the United States Army serving in Germany until 1954. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Blackwell and continued working at the foundry. He married Mona M. Fulton on July 1, 1960 in Blackwell and they made Blackwell their home. After eighteen years with the foundry he began his own auto and furniture business and owned and operated the business for twenty-two years. He later worked in cars sales for Jerry Brown Ford and Sonny Cannon Chevrolet and retired in 1997. In 2002 they moved to Stillwater to make their home. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Fidelis Sunday School Class in Stillwater. He was also active in the Food for Kids program through the church. While in Blackwell he served on the board of the Kittie Huston Apartments. Winny also held membership in the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a full-fledged member of Chuck’s Paint and Paper Coffee Group and the McDonald’s Coffee Group in Stillwater and the Village Pantry Coffee Shop in Blackwell. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening, collecting model cars and visiting with his many friends.

He is survived by his wife, Mona Haney of Stillwater; a daughter, Holly Chermack of Stillwater; a sister, Ethel Prater; two brothers, David Haney and Cecil Warren; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant brother.

Private family services will be held at a later date.
