Benjamin Russel Hein – Veteran

August 9, 1925 – February 13, 2018

Benjamin Russel Hein longtime Ponca City resident passed away Tuesday evening, February 13, 2018 in Ponca City, OK. Ben was born on August 9. 1925 in Grant County, Ok to Benjamin M. and Margaret Mund Hein.

A Rosary will be held Friday, February 16, 2018 at 6p.m. in the Chapel of Grace Memorial Chapel with Deacon Robinson, from St. Mary’s Catholic Church officiating. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2018 at St Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Carson Krittenbrink serving as Celebrant. Following the ceremony, He will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife Angela in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Kyle Klufa, John Klufa, Doug Johnston, Blake Hein, Ben Smith and Axton Montgomery.

Ben served a tour of duty in the U.S. Army 15th infantry division which was the same division Audi Murphy served in during WWII. In 1945 Ben met the love of his life Angela H. Thul and they were married on October 20, 1947 in Whittemore, Iowa. They made their home in Kay County and operated a farm between Ponca City and Blackwell for several years. Ben also worked in the refinery and he retired after over 30 years of service. He was a member of the St Mary’s Catholic Church. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus where he held the 4th degree. It was in this capacity that he served as a member of Pope Paul II’s Honor Guard in San Antonio. Ben also enjoyed spending time with family, Cooking and growing Flowers.

Survivors include: 3 sons: William “Bill” Hein and wife Celia of Oklahoma City, OK Matthew “Matt” Hein and wife Kathy of Red Rancho, NM and Kirk Hein of Dallas, TX, 4 daughters: Margaret “Marge” Johnson and husband Dwight of Stillwater, OK Joyce Montgomery and husband Dennis also of Stillwater, OK Mary Klufa of Collinsville, TX and Teresa Smith and husband Eric of Allen, TX 1 brother; Melvin Hein and wife Emelia of Edmond, OK 17 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 2013, 1 son; Mark Hein, a son in law Frank Klufa, 1 grandson, Greg Montgomery, 1 infant granddaughter Krista Klufa, 1 brother; Clarence Hein 3 sisters; Helen Buellesfeld, Rosemary Sears and Freda Vetter.
