Obituary for Walter “Buck” Harris

Walter Harris

(October 3, 1951 – April 29, 2016)

Walter D Harris III, known as Buck or Bucky to friends and family, was born October 3, 1951, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, second child of Walter D Harris Jr. and Gloria Lee Harris.

Buck was a life-long resident of Ponca City. He graduated Ponca City High School in 1969 then attended Oklahoma State University. While attending college, he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and continued to be an active member. Buck loved sports and played football and baseball throughout his school life. He was an avid Oklahoma State fan. Buck’s pride and joy was his daughter Meghan Harris Donelson. Later, with the birth of his two grandchildren, they became the focus of his life. He would light up with joy the moment he saw them. Buck also deeply loved his stepson, Guy Norris, and his favorite niece, Rexi Graham Phillips.

Buck is survived by his daughter Meghan Donelson, and her husband Colt Donelson of Burbank, Ok, and Buck’s grandchildren Clay Harris Donelson and Margaret Naomi Donelson; son Guy Norris and his four children of Allen, TX; sister Chris Graham, and her husband Byron Graham of Edmond; a niece, Rexi Graham Phillips and husband Mark Phillips of Edmond; a cousin, Gloria Beth Barton of Pataskala, Ohio; and an Aunt Virginia Thomas and her four children Betty Hanson, Carolyn Rogers, Harley Thomas, and Susie Ewing and their families.

Buck was preceded in death by his mother and father, Walter and Gloria Harris.

The funeral will be held at the Ponca City Presbyterian Church at 2:00 P.M., Monday, May 2nd, 2016. The viewing will be held at Trout Funeral Home on Sunday, May 1, from 12:00-5:00. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to any charity that honors Buck’s memory.
