July 14, 1946 – December 20, 2020

Vera Jane (Aytes) Luce passed away peacefully at her home in Tonkawa, Oklahoma on December 20, 2020. Vera was born in Blackwell, Oklahoma on July 14, 1946 to Charley Dayton Aytes and Nellamae Lillian (Pasley) Aytes. While in high school, her family moved to California and that is where she met the man who would become her husband James Michael “Mike” Luce on a blind date on Friday, March 13th, 1964. They were married on August 15th of the same year. As a military family, they moved throughout the country and overseas while raising their three children–Carol, Janice and James, Jr. Upon Mike’s retirement from the USAF in 1981, the family moved to Cottonwood Shores, Texas where Mike and Vera resided before moving to Tonkawa in 1997.

Vera shared her gift of music through singing and playing guitar for family and friends. Over the years, she shared her artistry through the making of hand-sewn quilts, crocheted/knitted blankets and gardening. She and Mike shared a love for camping, fishing, bowling and family history.

Vera was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers (Thomas and James), and niece Dara and nephew Chad. She is survived by her daughter Carol Ann Luce Wright and husband Michael of Wasilla, Alaska, daughter Janice Michele Luce and husband Duane of Horseshoe Bay, Texas and son James Michael Luce, Jr. and wife Karen of Haysville, Kansas, brothers Gerald Aytes of Shawnee and Richard Aytes and wife Darla of Newcastle, 16 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

Graveside Services will be 9 am, Saturday December 26, 2020 at Ft Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
