Obituary for Velma Davis

Velma Lorene Davis passed away peacefully surrounded by her daughters Saturday, May 31, 2014, in her home. She celebrated 96 years of life. Velma was born on September 27, 1917, in Ft. Supply, Oklahoma to her parents, Charlie and Hilda Robertson, of Laverne, Oklahoma. Velma grew up in Laverne where she won many friends by her unusually unselfish and friendly disposition, which she carried through her entire life.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 3 from 4pm-6pm at Trout Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 4 at The First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Smith, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.

She graduated from the Laverne High School with the Class of 1935 and entered the State University at Norman. Velma met the love of her life in western Oklahoma and married William L. (Beau) Davis on November 23, 1937 in Lexington, Oklahoma. While Beau was serving in the Army, she supported the war effort by working in a garment factory making raincoats for the service men.

Velma has spent the last 63 years in Ponca City. She was an active member in the First United Methodist Church and was a life time member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing bridge in many clubs and was an avid OU fan.

Her life revolved around her family and was an inspiration to them all. She is survived by her daughter Carla Grisham (husband Rich) of Naples, Florida, Nancy Field (husband David) of Holland, Michigan, four grandchildren, Richard Grisham (Lisa) of Eureka, MO, Kristin Hall (Randy) of Eureka, MO, Charlie Field of Grand Rapids, MI and Christopher Field of Grand Rapids, MI, and five great grandchildren, Courtney and Kileigh Grisham, Lily, Tyler and Alex Hall, and many loving family members.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and two brothers Max and Robert Robertson.
