Obituary for Tom Hall

Thomas “Tom” William Hall of Blackwell, Oklahoma died May 30, 2014, in the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home in Blackwell, Oklahoma, at the age of 94 years.

Tom Hall was born on December 29, 1919, in May, Oklahoma, to Mose and Mary (Chamberlin) Hall. He grew up on a farm west of Blackwell and attended Star School. He told stories of riding and racing horses to and from the school. He attended Blackwell High School and graduated with the class of 1938. Following graduation, he worked at Blackwell Zinc and also had a small farming operation. He married Doris Jean Pennington in 1940, and she preceded him in death after twenty-one years of marriage. He was a custom combiner for many years and ran various businesses in and around Tonkawa and Blackwell.

He then married Helen Morrill, and they were married for forty-one years. Tom served as the Kay County Commissioner for sixteen years. He then worked for Evans and Associates for many years. In 1971, he received the Outstanding Service Award from the Blackwell Takedown Club, and in 1973, he received the Outstanding Service award from the First United Methodist Church. He named, organized and served as a chairman of the Northern Oklahoma Development Association (NODA).

He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the First United Methodist Church and had a very active role in the planning and building of the First United Methodist Church at its present location. He was a member and teacher of the Friendship Sunday School Class for many years. Tom enjoyed family events, woodworking, pool, card parties and watching the Atlanta Braves. Tom and Helen enjoyed blending their two families into one by hosting many family holiday gatherings throughout the years.

He is survived by three sons, Howard Hall and wife Donna, Dick Hall and wife Karen , and Jerry Morrill and wife Sharlene; ten grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; 11 great great grandchildren; and one great great great grandchild. He had many friends including two very special friends in Garnet Stanley and Harold Aldridge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, two wives and one son, Lance Morrill and his wife Sally.

Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 2, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church, Blackwell, Oklahoma, with Rev. Pam Cottrill officiating. Burial will follow at the Blackwell Cemetery, Blackwell, Oklahoma.

Casketbearers will be Austin Unruh, Cale McKenzie, Jeremy Morrill, Jason Morrill, Charlie Conagahn and Crispin Glymph. Honorary Casketbearers will be the Friendship Sunday School Class.
