Susan Kay Rayner

June 23, 1986 – December 7, 2017

It is with great sadness that the family of Susan Kay Emmons Rayner, age 31 years, resident of Ponca City, OK, announce her immediate death from critical injuries sustained from a two-car head-on collision on Hwy 11 near Barnsdall, OK at 12:08 p.m., Thursday, December 7, 2017.

Beloved daughter of Charles Wayne and Bobbi (Bonita) Ann (Tomlinson) Emmons, Susie was born on June 23, 1986 in Houston, Texas where she lived until moving with her family to Ponca City, OK in August of 1990. Susie is the 5th of 7 siblings. She was actively involved with Girl Scouts and Young Women activities with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Ponca City, in which she was baptized and a member. She graduated one year early in 2003 from the Alternative Ponca City High School. She married Jason Lee Lawson (deceased) on July 19, 2003 in Ponca City. Susie was with Billy Joe Rutherford from 2007-2012.

Susie graduated from Northern Oklahoma College with an Associate Degree in Applied Sciences in May 2011. She successfully took the licensing exam to become a Registered Nurse in 2011, and began a career in Home Health Nursing with Osage Home Health. She worked at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, OK and also at Blackwell, OK Nursing Home. She more recently returned to Osage Home Health, and was actually on her way to see a patient at the time of the vehicular accident.

Susie loved working with elderly patients and often, her patients refused to be seen by any other nurse. She was engaged to Eric Greenfield of Ponca City at the time of her death. They enjoyed attending college football and professional basketball games in Oklahoma City together. She also enjoyed seeing their blended family of 5 children participating in wrestling and soccer. She loved going fishing with her family and liked to play games on her phone. The family dog, Odie, was especially attached to Susie, performing tricks she had taught him. Susie was very close with her siblings and parents, often in touch with someone on a daily basis. She was the smallest of the children, and they used to play by putting Susie down the house’s 2-story laundry chute to land on mounds of laundry in the vat in the basement. Susie loved animals, and was known to sneak puppies kittens, and even turtles into the house. She liked rainy days, pizza, jell-o with fruit in it, and sleeping. When feeling blue, her voice would sound like “Eeyore”, the sad donkey from “Winnie the Pooh” stories. Susie loved life and family.

Susie will be lovingly remembered by her precious children, Jacob Lawson and Hannah Rutherford of Ponca City, OK, by her fiancé, Eric Greenfield and his 3 children of Ponca City, by her parents, Charles Emmons from Ponca City and Bobbi Emmons from Guthrie, OK, and by her two brothers and four sisters: Karen (Chris) Emmons Ortiz of Tonkawa, OK, Katherine (Rick) Emmons Gragg of Ponca City, David (Becky) Emmons of Pawhuska, OK, Katrina Emmons of Tonkawa, Rebecca (Bradley) Emmons Pesicka of Guthrie, and Philip Emmons of Ponca City. She will also be remembered by 9 aunts, 7 uncles, numerous cousins, 9 nieces and nephews, many friends and former patients. The family dog, Odie, was especially fond of Susie, and she had a daily routine of playing with the dog, rewarding him with treats.

Susie was preceded in death by all four grandparents: Effie (Wilkie) and Eugene Emmons of Houston, Texas, Hazel (Weiderman) and Maxwell Tomlinson of Albany, New York as well as her aunt Pollyann (Emmons) Vogler of Houston.
