Stephen Wayne Kinzie

July 26, 1948 – October 17, 2017

Stephen Wayne “Steve” Kinzie, age 69, longtime Ody’s bar owner, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at his home.

A ceremony to celebrate his life will start at 5:30 pm, Thursday, October 19, 2017 at the Ody’s Bar. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.

Steve was born on July 26, 1948 to Wallace Kinzie and Billie Clarke Kinzie Wilcox in Ponca City,OK. He was raised in Ponca City, graduating from high school in 1966. Following high school, Steve was drafted in to the U.S. Army where he served as a medic, serving in Vietnam. Glenda Brown became his wife and lifelong partner on July 19, 1968 celebrating 44 years of marriage before her passing in 2012. After their marriage, they moved to Salem, MA to become an apprentice golf pro with the PGA. However, Oklahoma was his home, so Steve moved to Ardmore and served as the Assistant Golf Pro at the Dornick Hills Country Club. Later, Steve accepted a position as the Teaching Professional at the Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa. Continuing his golf career, Steve then moved to Chanute, Kansas where he was the Head Golf Pro. After his time as a golf pro, in the early 1980’s Steve began selling Izod Lacoste clothing to golf courses around the region, a sales position that would last over 20 years. In 1991 Steve and Glenda purchased Ody’s Bar on East Lake Road, continuing a heritage to this day. Steve was a unique and lovable character, full of life and passion for getting the most out of it, as he saw fit. His personality was large, outgoing and always ready to have fun. Often looking out for others, Steve was not a self centered man. He used his time and efforts often to host community events at his bar and arrange golf tournaments for benevolent causes. Steve’s way and wit will be missed greatly by his family, friends and patrons.

Survivors include his son, Corey Kinzie and wife Audrey of Oklahoma City, daughter Kasi Kinzie of Ponca City, sister Kathy Bezner and husband Tommy of Gordonville, TX, brother Danny Kinzie and wife Julie of SC, and grandson Cade Kinzie of Oklahoma City. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
