Shirley Louise Richards Head of Braman, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday evening, December 6, 2018, at her daughter’s home near Perkins, Oklahoma, at the age of 87 years.

Shirley Louise Richards Head was born October 3, 1931, in Newkirk, Oklahoma, to Stephen Arlington Richards and Minnie Bell Hunt. She graduated from Newkirk High School in 1949. She married Don Richard Head September 1, 1951, in Newkirk. She and Don met at their jobs at Boeing in Wichita, Kansas. She was a liaison who met new hires and showed them around Boeing and took the people to where they would be working. Sparks flew and after several rebuffs she accepted a double date with Don and the rest is history. Their first two girls were born in Wichita. Then the opportunity to move to the family farm at Braman presented itself after the death of Don’s grandfather, Alfred Head. The young couple took their young girls and moved to Braman, where two sons were added to the family. Head’s Crest Dairy was born. They milked Brown Swiss cows and showed them all over the United States. They had numerous champions and All-American nominations. Shirley was a swimming and lifesaving instructor for the Red Cross at the Blackwell pool for more than 25 years. She was an endeared member of the First United Methodist Church of Braman where she participated in many programs including the food pantry and United Methodist Women.

She is survived by daughters, Trisha Marie Cobb and husband Abe, Tena Ellen Cobb and husband Ben; sons, David Richard Head and wife Marie, and Duane Franklin Head. Grandchildren include Chelsea Rose Arthur and husband Justin and their children Isaiah, Lucius, Tatum, Tony, and Evangeline; Abe Caldwell Cobb II and wife Katrina; Bryce Irvin Moeder and his children Averie and Brylie; Cinnamon Marie who met her grandmother in heaven and great grandchildren Jakobi and Riley; Jennifer Lea Head and her children Trinity and Trey; Jeramy Don Head and wife Laci and children Braydn and Rowan; Alexandrea Marie Russell and husband Austin and children Damien and Daxter; Jyden Dryke Van Buren and wife Kallie and children Jamieson and Rylenn; Neal Duane Head and wife Denise and children Kyson, Payton, Lakyn and Harper; Kasie Lea Head and child Reagan; Jayme Ellen Wolfe and husband Kyle and children Louden, Kyrin, Kroy, Jayda and Larric Preston who met his grandmother in heaven; Justin Dean Head and wife Annie and children Oakley, Rutley and Hensley. Also beloved nieces and nephews, Heidi Hornaday, Walter Hinton and Steve and Sharon Richards, and beloved dog Waylon. Lovingly added to the family are sons Gary Williams, and little David Moeder and grandson Jimmy Sandborn.

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Don Head; grandchild, Cinnamon Marie Wells; great grandchild, Larric Preston Wolfe; daughter-in-law, Kim Lea Head and beloved dog Bruiser.

Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 10th in the Braman United Methodist Church with Rev. Trish Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery in South Haven, Kansas.

Casketbearers will be Neal Head, Justin Head, Jeramy Head, Bryce Moeder, Kyle Wolfe and Abe Cobb II. Serving as an honorary casketbearer will be Jimmy Sandborn.

A memorial has been established in her honor with the Braman United Methodist Church in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
