Saundra Kay Irwin

February 19, 1942 — March 3, 2024

Saundra Kay (Sandy) DeVaughn Irwin, age 82, passed away peacefully at her home with family on March 3, 2024. Sandy was born in Ponca City on February 19, 1942, to Vernon DeVaughn and Gladys Cranford DeVaughn.

She grew up in Ponca City and Barnsdall where she met and married James A Irwin on March 17, 1958. They had a daughter, Joetta Sue Irwin that passed away at the age of 5. After moving back to Ponca City, Sandy was a housewife and mother to 3 other children, Vicki Irwin Wright, Tracy J Irwin, and Roger L Irwin.

Sandy was a 911 dispatcher for Ponca City for 12 years. She was an active member of Second Baptist Church, where she was served as the church secretary for 20 years. Later she joined NE Baptist Church and was an active member until her illness didn’t allow it. She had many good friends from both churches.

Her love of family was deep. She was so proud to say she had 12 grandkids, 14 great-grandkids and a great-great granddaughter to be born in July.

There were many lunches with friends, but the highlight was weekly card playing with a wonderful group of ladies from the church.

The family would like to thank Humanity Hospice for the care they gave her in the last few months.

Services will be held at NE Baptist Church 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 7th, 2024.
