(October 30, 1954 – November 19, 2015)

Ronald “Ronnie” Eugene Johnson, 61, of Ponca City, OK, passed away on November 19, 2015, at his home after a lengthy battle with Cholangiocarcinoma. He was born on October 30, 1954 in Winfield, Kansas. Ronnie was the fourth of five children of the late Fred A. and Elizabeth D. (Chambers) Johnson. After graduation from Ponca City High School in 1972, he worked on the construction of Kaw Dam and later at Nelson Electric. He eventually started a career as Electrical Technician at Mertz Manufacturing where he worked for more than thirty years.

Ronnie was an avid musician and played Bass and other musical instruments from his grade school days through October 24, 2015, the day of his Rockfest Benefit. He participated by playing a set with Prezence. His final number of the evening was played with The Real Band. Some of the local bands Ronnie played in throughout the years were RT’s, The Velvet Soul, Super Groove, The Roy Roberts Band, Ambush, ZOA, Almost White Band, Fly By Night, Network, The Kaw Dam Band, Good Ole Boys, Prezence, and The Real Band. He considered each and every one of his band members to be part of his family. His fellow musicians referred to him as “The Master of Lower Frequency“. On July 19, 1974, he married Nancy Sue Potts in Ponca City. This marriage produced The Rising Son, Johnlyn Caleb Johnson. On December 23, 2013, he married Deborah Ann Holt of Ponca City, whom he referred to as “His Flower Girl with the Golden Fleece“.

Ronnie is survived by his wife, Deborah “Debbie” Johnson, of the home. He is also survived by son Johnlyn Caleb Johnson, daughter-in-law, Cheryl Johnson, and granddaughters, Kylie Nicole Johnson and Addisyn Lynn Johnson all of Tulsa, OK. Additionally, he is survived by siblings, Drucilla Ann “D.A.” and Mike Wentworth of Wichita, Kansas, Lynn Harrison Johnson and partner Debbie Stingley of Ponca City, Clinton “KeKe” Merle and wife Pam Johnson of Ponca City.

He loved each and every one of his many nieces and nephews. They are Walker Andrews, Jason, Jeremy, Jeff, and Kelby Johnson, Tara Reed, David Brown, Caley Burdick, and Zac, Bree Ann, and Micah Johnson.

Ronnie felt very fortunate to have such a large and loving extended family, mother-in-law, Virginia Lee Krenn of Stillwater, OK, Mounzer “Manny” and Doris Al-Harake of Stillwater, Jacqueline Al-Harake, Tulsa, OK, Jamilah and Mohamad Kawtharani, Doha, Qatar, Stepson Justin Lee Cook of Ponca City, OK and brother-in-law, Tony Krenn of Stillwater, OK

Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents and brother Kent Leroy Johnson.

He will be available for viewing at Trout Funeral Home on Friday, November 20, 2015 until 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, November 21, 2015, at the Carolyn Renfro Event Center, Ponca City, OK, with Herb Rains officiating. Interment will be at Longwood Cemetery in Ponca City following the service.

Mertz Manufacturing, Inc. is providing a facility at 2400 N. Waverly (West Building) for the after funeral family and friends gathering. The family would appreciate any food donations be delivered to that facility by Noon on Saturday.
