Richard David Delaney – Veteran.

January 25, 1948 – March 11, 2016

Richard D. Delaney longtime Ponca City resident passed away Friday, March 11, 2016 in Enid, OK. He was 68 years of age. Richard was born on January 25, 1948 in Ponca City, OK to Benjamin and Trannie Rutherford Delaney.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Grace Memorial Chapel in Ponca City, OK with Pastor David Frees of St Luke’s Nazarene Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ponca City. Richard attended school in Ponca City at McKinley, East Junior High and graduating in 1966 at Ponca City High; he then attended Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa, OK. Richard served a tour of duty in the U.S. Army during Vietnam receiving numerous Army Commendations, a combat infantry badge as well as being a Purple Heart recipient. Richard married Eve Penka Inscore which produced his children Lisa D. Delaney Jamison, Clancey D. Delaney, and his late son Richard (Ricky) D. Delaney Jr. He later met and married Vickie Gildhouse, daughter of the late Edward & Dovie Gildhouse, on October 8, 1979 in Las Vegas, NV and they made their home in Ponca City. Richard worked as a carpenter for Conoco from 1973 till his retirement in 1998. He also became a representative for PFS Investments from 1994 – 2001 while also helping his friends and family with their financial needs. Richard was a member of the V.V.A., V.F.W. and the American Legion. Richard enjoyed a good game of Darts at Ody’s.

Survivors include: wife; Vickie of the Home, Clancy Delaney and wife Kristy of Medford, OK; Lisa Jamison and husband Will of Medford, OK and Chelsy Delaney of Ponca City, OK 1 sister; Sue Hesket and husband Danny; 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bennie, his son Ricky, his in-laws Edward and Dovie Gildhouse, his brother in law (Leroy) Gildhouse, Jr, as well as numerous family members.

Pallbearers will be Clancy Delaney, Billy Hesket, Danny Hesket, Ronnie Hunt, Bill Tull and Chad Delaney. Honorary Pallbearers will be Paul Bates and the Conoco Carpenter Gang.
