Obituary for Rachel Christy

Rachel Lenore Christy, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at the Alliance Health Center, Ponca City. She was 95 years of age.

Rachel was born July 25, 1920, in Kaw City, Oklahoma, one of six children born to George E. Spaulding and Lydia Fern (Brunt) Spaulding. Rachel was a 1938 graduate of Ponca City High School and then attended Ponca City Business College. She was married to Jack G. Christy on August 4, 1939, in El Reno, Oklahoma. She had been employed in accounting and realty, and had served as the Albright United Methodist Church secretary. She taught the nursery class in the Sunday School for many years and volunteered at the Ponca City Chapter of the American Red Cross as Director of Service to Military Families.

She had been a member of Albright United Methodist Church since her childhood and had been a member of the church’s Progressive Sunday School Class. Her enjoyments centered on her grandchildren, but she loved all children. She also enjoyed making ceramic pieces.

She is survived by her three children, Ann Ryan and husband Charles, of Ponca City, Dottie Johnstone and husband Danny, of Ponca City, and Jacklyn Rae Shepherd and husband Jim, of Daytona Beach, Florida; 7 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren with another due in October; many extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers and three sisters.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 5, 2015, at the Ponca City I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Rev. April Coates of Albright United Methodist Church will be presiding. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.

Casket bearers are Andy Elliott, Chris Rutherford, Michael Snow, Ryan Snow, Charlie Yundt, and Brandon Woolley.
