Phyllis Lansdowne

July 27, 1943 – January 18, 2021

Phyllis Louise Lansdowne, age 77, of Ponca City, OK passed away January 18, 2021 at Alliance Health, in Ponca City, Oklahoma due to complications of COVID-19. Care is under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory.

Phyllis was born July 27, 1943 in Wichita, KS to DJ and Melba (Montgomery) Mourer. She grew up in Tonkawa, OK, graduating from Tonkawa High School in 1961. While in high school, Phyllis sang in several choirs, including the Girl’s Quartet. This group was together all four years of high school and received superior ratings at all contests. She married the boy who lived across the street, Lloyd Lansdowne, at the First Presbyterian Church of Tonkawa on June 23, 1962. The couple was blessed with two children, Rhonda and Troy. After briefly living in Tonkawa, Lake City, FL, and Alva, OK, the family moved to Ponca City, where Lloyd began his thirty-three-year career at Conoco and Phyllis settled into the role of homemaker. In 1981, Phyllis earned her Associate’s Degree in Mental Health from Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa. That same year, she herself began a career at Conoco, working for twenty-two years before retiring in 2003. This included a six-year move to Midland, TX in the 1990s.

Phyllis considered her family, friends, and church family to be the most important part of her life. She always enjoyed hosting the annual Thanksgiving and Christmas family gatherings, as well as any other excuse to get together. She was an active member of Albright United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School to the Open Door and Homemakers’ Classes. Favorite pastimes included quilting with the ladies at church, genealogy, reading, working jigsaw puzzles, painting, and drawing. She enjoyed her Friday night domino group as well. She will be forever loved and missed.

She is survived by daughter Rhonda Lansdowne, son Troy Lansdowne and wife Robin, grandson Eric Lansdowne-Peeples, brother Ron Mourer and wife Nancy, brother-in-law Lynn Lansdowne and wife Dianna, sister-in-law Leola “Leigh” Hunter and husband Michael, nephew Darrin Mourer and wife Alicia, niece Marissa Mourer Paxton and husband Laramie, niece Jennifer McCoy and husband Steven, nephew Jeff Wilson and wife Tami, nephew Travis Lansdowne, nieces Gayle Vance, Lea Blenz, and Julie Mazurier, several great nieces and nephews, many cousins, and extended family and friends, including lifelong friend Tricia (Cochran) Pepper.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd Lansdowne, her parents, grandparents Dave O. and Ethel Mourer and Luther and Wyneta Montgomery, her father and mother-in-law Lawrence and Hazel Lansdowne, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
