Peter Nelson Davis

June 4, 1982 – April 27, 2020

Peter Nelson Davis, born 4 June 1982 and passed away 27 April 2020. Brother to one, friend to many. Nelson, as most of us would grow to call him, was adopted by the most gracious and loving parents anyone could ask for, Tom and Becky Davis (Bacher). Even before Nelson was brought into our family, everyone immediately fell in love with him and his blonde hair and huge infectious smile. As his brother, we grew up in a loving household full of fun, laughter, baseball, smiles, and a German Shepherd named Chris. We grew up in a house on 12th St. in Tonkawa that still bears our height measurements to this day in the basement where we used to play our original Nintendo, (that almost predated color T.V.), on weekends and most summer evenings. We were given every opportunity in life as kids, 4-wheelers, trampoline, and a fort with a sand box.

Nelson enjoyed few things in life as much as he loved music. I am sure he got that from our grandparents, Jack and Ruby Spencer, and Mee-maw playing the organ. I remember as a kid being at their house eating popcorn watching the Lawrence Welk show as well as going to Kaw Lake during the summer camping and fishing. Grandma Ruby always insisted on being our pitcher when we wanted to play whiffle ball and regularly got hit. Grandpa Jack taught us how to shoot bottles at the creek off the bridge and we enjoyed watching wheat harvest with Uncle Rex (Purdy).

Nelson attended Tonkawa Elementary School and Tonkawa High School graduating with the Class of 2001, where he excelled in vocal, band, and multiple sports. Utilizing his many talents, Nelson was front and center in a Ska/Jazz band featured in the annual Red Bud festival with Tracy Patterson, both playing the saxophone and singing.

Collecting peaked Nelsons attention, and if you wanted gloves from Manny Paqiou, he knew a guy. For the longest time, Nelsons house was littered floor to ceiling with every jersey, every team, every mascot you could imagine, and he had a story for every single one of the signatures. He always wore Nike’s (yes some of those were autographed as well), even the ones some of you would call hideous that said Boomer on one side and Sooner on the other. He was a true fan of Oklahoma sports (Sooners that is) and did his best to book every team they played in every sport year-round in the hotels he managed. He even got to meet Barry Switzer a few times too!

Telling jokes was always Nelsons forte. If you didn’t laugh, he’d find a way to make it better, or remind you of it every time you came around, till you did. He also loved little dogs, not sure why, but he did, and Charlie was his best friend without question. Nelson would make his schedule around that dog’s feeding time and sleep schedule.

He also loved his daughters above all else, Preslei and Kins. They were his heart and soul, and I know the feeling was mutual. He loved hard, fast, and easy, and would give anyone the shirt off his back.

It was hard having someone so close looking up to you, he was always trying to keep me in check. Although never serving, he was a Patriot and loved the Army and my profession, always asking for more Army gear or T-shirts every time I came home.

Nelson is survived by his daughters, Preslei Miner of Perry, OK and Kinsley Davis of Enid, OK; his parents, Tom and Lily Davis of Tonkawa, OK and Becky and Glenn Bacher of Ponca City, OK; his brother, SSG Bryan Davis and wife Jennifer and nephews, Patrick and Wesley McKinney of Fort Benning, GA; nephew, Brayden Davis of Milton, Florida; step-sisters, Lori Salley and husband Mike, Mandy Lunsford and husband, Sean, and Melissa Bacher; girlfriend, Susan Ortiz of Lakeville, MN as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Jack and Ruby Spencer of Tonkawa and Kieffer and Keitha Davis of Bartlesville.
