Pamela Ann Childs

December 4, 1958 – May 19, 2018

Pamela Ann Kastner Childs also known as Ya Ya, age 59, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and dear friend to all, died peacefully on May 19, 2018 at Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK.

Pam grew up in Altus, OK and graduated from Altus High School in 1977. As a Bulldog, Pam participated in Spirit Steppers, Pep Club, K.A.Y. Club and was editor of the Altus High School Yearbook. Pam spent many summers on Lake Altus where she water skied with all of her Hick’s Mountain friends. Pam attended Western Oklahoma State College in Altus where she was a Pioneer Doll and Aggie Club Queen. She continued her education at Oklahoma State University. She pledged Pi Beta Phi Sorority and also worked on the OSU yearbook. Pam graduated as a Cowboy with a B.S. in Fashion and Design.

Pam’s real and abiding passions were her family and friends. She sought to instill in her two boys a zest for life, a commitment to family and friends, and the power of an infectious laugh and a contagious smile. Pam especially enjoyed attending OSU football games in Stillwater with her friends and her son, Jordan. Pam also loved parties and loved to dance. Oftentimes, the party would not start until Pam arrived! She had a natural gift for all things creative. Pam loved life.

While living in the Dallas, TX area, Pam became a buyer for the Armed Forces and had the opportunity to travel the world. She and her husband moved back to Oklahoma and lived in Altus and then Lawton where she was the manager of the Armed Forces Base Exchange. Eddie’s job took them to Northern Oklahoma where they settled in their permanent home, Ponca City. Pam loved Ponca City and her Ponca people. Pam purchased and managed a UPS store in Ponca where she thrived in the community. Pam was named Outstanding Volunteer to the Ponca City Community two times. Pam had a servant’s heart. She was quick to volunteer when it came to helping her community and her friends. Pam and her husband Eddie were members of the Ponca City First Baptist Church and her Sunday school class, the Adult 9. She served on several committees to help parishioners and the community.

Pam and her boys buried the love of her life, and the boys’ father, Eddie Matt Childs just three months ago. Pam is survived by her son, Austin Childs and his wife, Meracle, and their precious son, Ryder from Ponca City; son, Jordan Childs and his girlfriend Miranda from Ponca City; her parents, Jan and Floyd Kastner from Altus; sister, Elizabeth “Honey” Kastner Marcha from Altus; brother-in-law, Jimmy Childs and sister-in-law, Susan Childs from Altus; and numerous cousins, nieces and a nephew, and a multitude of friends whom she called family.

A memorial ceremony will be held at the First Baptist Church in Ponca City, on Friday, May 25, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. followed by a meet and greet with the family in the Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to the First Baptist Church of Ponca City, 218 S. 6th St., Ponca City, OK 74601. Her children especially want to thank the church and Sunday School class for their support during Pam’s and Eddie’s illnesses. Pam often talked about the Sunday School class holding “church” in the den of their home.

The family and closest friends ask that you spend time with your children, plan events with your loved ones, and make a toast to enduring friendships – lifelong and beyond. This is what Pam would wish.

Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory in Ponca City.
