Mel graduated from Ponca City High School in 1973. After high school, Mel worked at Miller Market and Smith Tool before joining Conoco in 1976. He worked in Oil Movements where he trained many co-workers during his 38 years there, before retiring in 2014.

He married Deborah (Wathor) Killingsworth on December 21, 1991. Mel is survived by: his wife, Debbie Cain, of the home; children, Keli Cain, Kyle Cain and his wife, Frances, Fred Killingsworth and his wife, Andrea, Andy Killingsworth, Brian Killingsworth and his wife, Ashley, and Sarah Danielson and her husband, James; grandchildren; Emma Killingsworth, John Killingsworth, Elijah Killingsworth, Gabriel Killingsworth, Emma Middleton; Lana Killingsworth, Jacksun Killingsworth, Kaleb Killingsworth, Kora Killingsworth, Toby Dunham, Kayson Cain, Romeo Mullon and Odysseus Cain; sisters, Beverly Bush and her husband, Lee, Donna Madderra and her husband, Steve, and Rita Morehead.

Mel was a long-time member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, where he married his wife Debbie. Mel was a devoted and loving husband and father to Keli, Kyle, Fred, Andy, Brian and Sarah. Mel loved vacationing in Mexico and Hawaii enjoying the beach. Much of his life was spent hanging out at the lake and camping with family and friends. He was very proud of the junior baseball team that he coached for several year in his early 20’s. He instilled a strong work ethic in all his children. He coached the kids in baseball and soccer for several years. He was also involved in Boy Scouts and went on several campouts with the boys. He spent a lot of time with the kids fishing, building things, and working on cars. Mel loved working with his hands, whether it be painting a picture, building displays for church and school events, and wood working.

In his retirement, he was an avid collector of coins and cigar box guitars. He enjoyed watching history shows. Although his body failed him in his later years, his mind was sharp as a tack. We could always count on Mel to remember names and memories of the past. Mel was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
