Mary Ellen Jeans

September 28, 1931 – April 14, 2018

Mary Ellen Jeans, loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away on April 14, 2018 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. She was born on September 28, 1931 in Granite, Oklahoma, the daughter of Richard and Ella York. She graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Home Economics. Upon graduation she began working with children as a 4-H agent in Kay County. On August 3, 1958 she married Don Jeans and they settled on a farm between Tonkawa and Blackwell. In this union, she was blessed with two children, a son Rick and a daughter Belinda. Don and Mary Jeans would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in August.

Mary was involved in the farming operation by cooking meals during harvest, and needless to say, the crew was delighted. Mary was an amazing cook and won numerous awards with her cooking. Mary enjoyed sewing and cooking for family and friends. She was very active in the Round Grove Home Demonstration Club for many years, where she also served as county president. Mary’s grandchildren were her pride and joy. She always said she could not have asked for three better grandchildren. Most importantly, Don and Mary were always very involved in their church, and are currently members of the Blackwell Church of Christ. Due to Mary’s faithfulness in God, we know she is rejoicing today in Heaven with her parents, brother, sister and other family members.

She is survived by her husband, Don of the home; son, Rick and his wife Dianne of Tonkawa, and their daughter, Amber McFerran and her husband Jacob of Edmond; daughter, Belinda Nichols and her husband Tracy of Edmond, and their children, Brady Nichols and his wife Shannon of Edmond and Dr. Chance Nichols and his wife Mackenzi, and their precious daughter, Goldie of Edmond. Goldie was her first great-grandchild. She is also survived by her brother, Jim York and his wife Mary Jo of Dalhart, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Lois Hunt of Iowa and Joyce York of Willow; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Ella York; brother, Dale York; sister, Norma Cooper and her husband Pete; mother-in-law and father-in-law Bill and Margie Jeans; niece, Barbara Bull; nephew, Brett Cooper; brother-in-law, Frank Hunt; and extended family Dorothy Jeans, Robert Messenger, Sam Messenger, and Lavene Palmore.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18th, 2018 at the Blackwell Church of Christ with Lanny Jobe officiating. Following the ceremony, she will be laid to rest at Round Grove Cemetery near Ponca City, Oklahoma.

Casketbearers will be Dr. Chase Nichols, Brady Nichols, Jacob McFerran and Julio Castaneda. The Christian Brethren will serve as honorary casketbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Nursery Center at the Blackwell Church of Christ in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.

The family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17th at the Blackwell Church of Christ Fellowship Hall.
