Obituary for Mary Ingham

Mary Ingham, long time resident of Ponca City passed away on Sunday, July 27th at the age of 93.

Mary was born in the original Kaw City in her grandparents home on February 24th, 1921, the daughter of George Danhour and Lillie Roupp Danhour.

Mary graduated from Newkirk High School in 1938 and went on to attend Oklahoma A & M College and received a degree in Vocational Home Economics. After graduation she was employed in the abstract department at Albright’s in Newkirk, Oklahoma. On January 12th, 1943 she married Harold Cleveland Brooks at the Brides home in Newkirk. Together they raised three children.

Mary and Harold were the owner-operator’s of several Dry Cleaning businesses’ located in Colorado and California for 26 years. In the mid 1970’s they returned to Ponca City and started the Brooks Pierce Land Development Company in the Highland Meadow Addition overlooking Kaw Dam.

After Harold’s death in 1996, Mary later married Herbert Laird Ingham. Laird served as Assistant Director in Gas Accounting and later retired from Conoco. After five wonderful years together, Laird passed away on April 14, 2006.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Leigh Stone and her husband Jerald of Ponca City, step-son Larry Ingham and his wife Carol of Hollywood Park, Texas, step-daughter Martha McLeod and her husband Ed of Maineville, Ohio, daughter-in-law, Dolly Brooks of Tombstone, Arizona, sister-in-law Louise Smith and her husband Glenn of Arkansas City, Kansas, eight grand children, Kristi Copeland of Wheatridge, Colorado, Lori Davis and her husband Ray of Ponca City, Mike Petersen and his wife Melanie of Summerfield, North Carolina, Sean and Hank McLeod of Mainville, Ohio, Brent Ingham and his wife Holly of Parker, Colorado, Cory Ingham and his wife Mandy of Lawrence, Kansas, Chris Ingham and his wife Grace of Lawrence, Kansas, and eight great-grandchildren, Madison Davis of Ponca City, Ryan and Benjamin Petersen of Summerfield, North Carolina, Austin, Calvin, Cohen, Elin, and Juliette Ingham, niece’s Marsha Orr and her husband Jerry of Ponca City, Sylvia Pratt and her husband Bob of Newkirk Oklahoma, Ruth Cord and her husband Edmund, nephews Martin Stuemky and his wife Jaci of Denver, Colorado, Doug Stuemky and his wife Sharon of Ponca City, David Stuemky and his wife LeeAnne of Westminster, Colorado, Scott Oulds of St. Louis, Missouri, and many great niece’s and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother Lillie Roupp Danhour, her father George Danhour, two husbands, Harold Brooks and Laird Ingham, one daughter, Kay Petersen, one son, Gary Brooks, one brother Temple Elias Danhour and one sister Betty Whetstone.

Mary was a wonderful homemaker and especially loved spending time with her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who will always be remembered for her sweet gentle nature.

A memorial service will be held at Trout Funeral Chapel on Thursday, July 31st at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma.
