Obituary for Marvin Gingerich

Marvin E. Gingerich of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Wednesday morning, February 5, 2014, in the Willow Haven Nursing Home in Tonkawa at the age of 82 years.

Marvin E. Gingerich was born on August 4, 1931, in rural Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Clarence Monroe and Edith Louise (Moore) Gingerich. He attended Blackwell Public Schools and graduated from Blackwell High School in 1949. Following his education he entered the United States Air Force. He married Sue Ellen Maudlin on December 26, 1950, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, and they settled at Ft. Warren, Wyoming, where he was stationed. He later transferred to Germany before being stationed at Luke Air Force Base in Glendale, Arizona. In 1955 they returned to Kay County and settled in Blackwell before moving to a farm near Braman where he began his farming operation and farmed until his retirement in 2009. His wife preceded him in death on March 11, 2011, and he continued to live on the farm. He married Bonnie Buxton on March 30, 2013, in Blackwell and they made Blackwell their home. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Braman and Blackwell and served for many years as a church elder and was a forty-eight year member of the American Legion. He served on the Blackwell Rural Water Board and was a Soil Conservation Award Winner. He enjoyed traveling, reading and family, especially attending his grandchildren’s various activities.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Gingerich of Blackwell; a daughter, Diane Ray and husband Keith of Braman; a son, Darrell Gingerich and wife Robin of Blackwell; three granddaughters, Brittany Ray of Stillwater, Tami Vaughan and husband Brent of Edmond, and Vanessa Martin and husband Jaman of Mustang; a grandson, Russell Ray of Stillwater; and a great grandson, Austin Vaughan of Edmond.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Louvona Hardin and Veda McGinty.

Services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Saturday, February 8th in the Blackwell Church of Christ with Lanny Jobe officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery with military rites performed by the Braman American Legion Post 259.

Casketbearers will be Keith Ray, Russell Ray, Ron Shoffner, Jerry Frieouf, Don Jeans and Jim Kincaid. Honorary casketbearers will be Jaman Martin, Vanessa Martin, Don Maudlin, Martin McGinty, Jeff Overton Brittany Ray, Brent Vaughan, Tami Vaughan, Mike Quirey and the Braman American Legion Post 259.
