Mark Alan Horinek, 68, passed away at his home in Newkirk, Oklahoma on January 28, 2023 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Mark was born to Elmer A. and Rita J. (Hoffman) Horinek on September 1, 1954.

Mark attended and graduated from Newkirk Public Schools. He subsequently earned a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Education from Oklahoma State University. After graduation, his first work was as an assistant agriculture teacher at Ponca City High School. Mark would later teach at Covington-Douglas High School. He cherished working with children and animals. He then worked in the oil fields around Enid, Oklahoma, before joining his father in farming in Newkirk, Oklahoma, where he remained until his retirement.

He is survived by his companion Kim Horinek of the home; daughter, Tiffany Smith and husband Brian of Covington, OK; and their sons, Parker and Ford; daughter Tara Hight of Covington, OK; and her sons, Drake and Sawyer; brother Jim Horinek and wife Karen; sisters Charlotte Horning and husband Rex; Lisa Edens and husband Tim; Diane Murray and husband George; Denise Greenwood and husband Todd; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Rita Horinek, as well as his brother Brian Anthony Horinek.

Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W. Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK 74601. A burial service is pending and will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Francis Altar Guild, c/o St. Francis Church, Attn: Mark Horinek Memorial, PO Box 11, Newkirk, OK 74647, in memory of Mark’s mother, Rita, who was a proud member of the Altar Guild and would be honored for them to receive donations on Mark’s behalf.
