Lynda Smith

September 22, 1945 – March 7, 2019

Lynda Kay Smith, resident of Ponca City, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2019 surrounded by family and her pastor after a long, 13 year struggle with Alzheimer’s. She was 73 years old. Lynda was born on September 22, 1945 in Ponca City to her parents, Omer Wilbur Bottrell and Alice Azalia (Jones) Bottrell. She graduated from Ponca City High School in 1963.

Lynda was a dedicated wife and mother. She was very talented with crafts and decorating. Lynda never missed a t-ball, softball, soccer, basketball, twirling, gymnastics activity of any kind for her kids. Lynda was extremely talented when it came to creating costumes, prom dresses and twirling outfits, which were never store bought but painstakingly hand made. Every birthday cake was home-made and decorated to the hilt and the house decorated for every holiday and special occasion.

Being the social butterfly Lynda was known to be, she was very active in her local chapter sorority, Beta Sigma Phi. She enjoyed traveling to craft shows, museums and spending girl’s weekends in Branson with her sorority sisters. Lots of laughter, pranks and good times were always important to Lynda.

In her younger years, Lynda was a hair dresser and always wore the latest fashions. Her hair and nails were always done, and she never left the house without her make-up being perfect. After the kids were born, Lynda chose to stay home and be an ideal housewife for her family. The house was always spotless and lunches were made with love notes. After the kids went off to school, Lynda joined the work force again at the City of Ponca City. As the Community Development and Code Enforcement Secretary, she made sure all the small details were attended to for every member of her office including recognizing birthdays and personal achievements for her co-workers.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Smith of Ponca City, daughter, Lori Smith and fiancé Pat Hope of Oklahoma City, and son, Chad Smith of Edmond, Oklahoma.

Lynda was preceded in death by her parents, Omer and Alice, daughter Michelle Smith and infant brother, Chester Bottrell.

A funeral ceremony for Lynda will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at the First Christian Church. Following the ceremony, Lynda will be laid to rest at Newkirk Cemetery.
