Louis F. Gose – Veteran

(May 28, 1925 – April 6, 2016)

Louis F. Gose of Blackwell, Oklahoma, passed away on April 6, 2016, in the Veterans Center in Lawton, Oklahoma, at the age of 92 years.

Louis F. Gose was born on May 28, 1923, in Bridgeport, Texas, to J. E. and Mary Annie (Nevells) Gose. He graduated from high school in May of 1941. Following his education he worked as a doorman at the local theater. On June 21, 1943, he entered the United States Army serving basic training in the Mavaha Desert with the 389th Anti-Aircraft Unit. Following his service during World War II, he was honorably discharged on January 13, 1946.. Upon his return to the states, he attended school and studied horology or watchmaking and graduated in nine months as a certified watchmaker. After completing his training he began working for Zale’s Jewelers in Oklahoma City. He married June Page on September 11, 1948, in Oklahoma City and in 1950 opened his own store. In 1963 they moved to Blackwell where he purchased Peddicord Jewelers later becoming Gose Jewelers. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, served as a City Commissioner and in various civic organizations in Blackwell. He enjoyed playing golf and drinking coffee with his friends.

He is survived by his wife, June Gose; two daughters, Linda Rycroft of Ada, Oklahoma, and Cindy Benefield and husband Dave of Walters, Oklahoma; two sons, Roger Gose of Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Ralph Gose and wife Judy of Blackwell; ten grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings.

Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 8th in the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell with Rev. Cap McIlnay officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery with military rites performed by the United States Army.

Casketbearers will be Tony Gose, Toby Gose, Randy Gose, Jason Mimms, Josh Bovard, Stephen Gose and Jeff Edgemon. The Friendship Sunday School Class will serve as honorary casketbearers.
