October 24, 1936 – July 13, 2021

Linda Jonell Harney, age 84, of Ponca City, OK passed away July 13, 2021, with her family, in the comfort of her home. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 17, 2021, at Trout Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Tom Howard officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery.

Linda was born on October 24, 1936, in Ponca City, Ok to John and Cora (Merrick) Wittmer. Linda grew up in Ponca City and obtained her education from Ponca City High School and Northern Oklahoma College. She was also a certified cosmetologist.

On May 6, 1955, she married the love of her life, George D. Harney. They married and raised their three daughters in Ponca City, OK. George and Linda were married for 66 amazing years.

Linda’s most favored roles were that of wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She shared her sewing, cooking and crafting skills with her children. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in sports and outdoor activities. She was a well-known high school, tournament and collegiate “Softball Mom”! She also loved music and enjoyed all concerts, especially those that her children and grandchildren participated in.

Linda loved crafts, quilting and sewing. She loved being a seamstress and was honored to be selected to make the uniforms that established the Po-Hi Steppers in the 1970s. She was a member of the Pioneer Area Quilter’s Guild, a skilled quilter that did meticulous work that resulted in many spectacular quilts. She had an active church life which included teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at Second Baptist Church. She also supported activities under her husband’s role of Youth Sunday School Activity Director.

Survivors include her loving husband, George D. Harney of Ponca City, OK; daughters, Lynetta Rochelle and her husband, John, of Ponca City, OK, Anita Payne and her husband, James, of Houston, TX, Tammy Zweiacher, and her husband, Bob, of Clam Gulch, AK. Other survivors include grandchildren, Lisa Hawryluk and her husband, Peter, Jacob Payne, Jocelyn Hill and her husband, Jacob, Bailey Rochelle; great-grandchild, Jack Hawryluk and several nieces and nephews

Preceding her in death were her parents, John and Cora Wittmer; siblings, Ralph, Keith, Ynette, Latita and Harold.
