Obituary for Lenora Price

Ponca City Now - April 17, 2018 10:12 am

Lenora Stella Price

August 21, 1923 – April 15, 2018

Lenora Stella (Cockrum) Price, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed Sunday morning, April 15, 2018, at the Ponca City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was 94.
Lenora was born August 21, 1923, at Perry, Oklahoma, the daughter of Charles F. and Mary (Tontz) Cockrum. She graduated from Hayward High School in Noble County where she was the secretary-treasurer of her senior class. She was married to Oakley Kenneth Price on April 15, 1943, in Ponca City. The couple was married for 67 years at the time of his passing and Lenora passed on what would have been their 75th anniversary.
Lenora was employed as an Avon representative for many years. She was promoted to district manager and Oakley and Lenora moved to Arkansas but they missed their family and friends and eventually returned to Ponca City. She was a member of the First Christian Church. Her enjoyments included her family, traveling the country with her husband in their earlier retirement years, enjoying time with her grandchildren, crocheting, baking and cooking. She was active in the PTA when her daughters were in school and very active in the church. She always had a smile on her face and would wave to the other residents of the nursing home. She was a very well loved and respected woman in the community.
She is survived by her daughters Cheryl and husband Wesley Carpenter of Apache Junction, Arizona, and Beverly and husband Richard Montgomery of Lynden, Washington, grandson Andrew Carpenter, granddaughters Shaina (Randy) Underwood, and Shannon (Robert) Underwood, one sister Grace (Clarence) McKee, two brothers George Cockrum and James E. Cockrum.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson Tobe Carpenter and eight siblings. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church of Ponca City or the Community Christian Church of Ponca City.
