Obituary for Larry James Peterson

Ponca City Now - January 6, 2014 12:00 am

Larry J. "Pete" Peterson died Saturday, December 28, at the age of 64 surrounded by family and friends.

Proudly reared in Shidler, Oklahoma, Pete served in the U.S. Army during Viet Nam, and proceeded to obtain a B.S. of Pre-Law from Oklahoma State University. After an early career in manufacturing, Pete owned and operated dry cleaning and laundry businesses in the Ponca City area for over 30 years; when he wasn’t playing golf or cards.

Pete has enjoyed the wind on his face more recently with a new passion for riding his Harley. He will be greatly missed by many.

Pete is survived by his daughter Jill Peterson of Ponca City and her children SPC Chance Peterson (U.S. Army), Kaelyn Peterson and Cameron Davis of Ponca City; and his daughter and son-in-law Jamie and Arnold Wilkins and their children Owen and Wren of Kansas City. Reared by his paternal grandparents, Pete was especially close to his surviving Great Aunt Joan Kahline and her children Paul, John, and Jamie Kahline of Baltimore, MD. Additionally, Pete’s half siblings are Sandy Richards and Roger Peterson of Wichita, KS, and Gary Peterson of Spring, TX.

As Pete would never tolerate events conflicting with college bowl games (Go Pokes!), a memorial service is planned for Monday, January 6, 2pm at Trout Funeral Home in Ponca City. In lieu of flowers, Pete requested memorial contributions to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 1904 North Union, Suite 103 Ponca City, OK 74601.
