Lamont Brown III

April 1, 1981 – January 25, 2019

Lamont Brown III passed away unexpectedly at his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He was 37 years old. Traditional tribal services will be held at the Otoe-Missouria Tribal Complex. Gary “Chink” Whitecloud will officiate. A feast will begin at noon on Saturday, February 2, 2019 with burial to follow at the Ponca Tribal Cemetery in White Eagle. The staff at Grace Memorial Chapel are assisting with the arrangements. Casket bearers for the service will include Braxton Brown, Odi Brown, Joseph Brown, Stephen Coriz, Hunter Warrior, Andrew Warrior, and Honorary bearers are Bradley Childs, Shawn Tohee, D.J. Rush, Jason Cerre, Harrison Daugomah and William Daugomah.

Lamont was born on April 1, 1981 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Lamont Brown II and Mary Martha Warrior Brown. He attended Red Rock and Stillwater Schools. He played football in middle school. He attended Santa Fe Community College graduating with an Associate’s of Science degree in 2017. He had also earned his license as a plumber and HVAC journeyman.

Lamont enjoyed singing and other cultural activities with his family and tribe. He was descended from both the Giveswater family of the Ponca Tribe and the Carson family of the Otoe-Missouria Tribe. He was given the Ponca name of Ma’Hi’Ska. He was a talented straight dancer and a whip man for the House of Warriors. A very gifted artist, Lamont produced amazing drawings and was a member of Open Door Baptist Church in Santa Fe. His favorite way to pass the time was by spending time with his kids, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, maternal grandfather Clyde Warrior, paternal grandfather Eugene Brown and paternal grandmother Mava Brown.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his father, Lamont Brown II, son Braxtun Brown, Daughter Ray lee Brown, son Daden Brown, daughter Dayla Brown, sisters: Cheryl Brown, Maretha Katie Brown, Andellaka Brown, Rosemary Brown, and brother Odi Brown. Maternal grandmother Della Warrior, aunts Andrea Warrior, and Kathleen Honahni. Numerous nieces and nephews as well as a host of extended family.
