Obituary for Junior Boulanger

Junior Mitcher Boulanger passed away on February 16 at the age of 91. He was a father, grandfather, husband and WWII veteran. Junior was born on August 12, 1923 in Elgin, Kansas to Charles Mitcher and Essie Boulanger. He grew up in Elgin and after graduation enlisted in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He served as a nose gunner on a B24 and completed twenty-five combat missions over Italy and Germany. He received the Air Medal, two Oak Leaf clusters, and the Certificate of Valor for his service to his country.

After the war, Junior married Eileen Huckstep, of Sedan, Kansas on May 27, 1948. They were married for 48 years until she passed away in 1996. After their marriage, they made Ponca City their home and Junior started at Conoco where he spent his entire career. Junior and Eileen had two children, Mike and Patti, and were committed parents as their kids grew up in Ponca City. Junior was very involved in local youth sports and helped start the first Colt League baseball.

Junior and Eileen traveled often and built a cabin in Colorado, which was their favorite vacation spot. Junior was always planning the next trip to “the mountains” including a five-week trip to Alaska.

Junior spent the last year of his life living in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma very close to his son, Mike, and daughter-in-law, Sue. Junior was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen Boulanger, and by his sisters, Audrey Herard and Betty Lee, and his brother, Tom Boulanger. He is survived by his son, Mike Boulanger and wife, Sue, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and his daughter, Patti Johnson and her husband, Jim, of Southlake, Texas. He was very proud of his two grandsons, Will and Patrick Johnson.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 21 at the First Christian Church in Ponca City, Oklahoma at 11:00 am preceded by a burial at 10:00 am at Resthaven Cemetery in Ponca City. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory.
