Obituary for Joyce King

Joyce Virginia King died Friday, January 6, 2015 in the Ponca City Medical Center at the age of 79. Joyce was born in McAlester, Oklahoma, March 13, 1935 to Harvey and Maude Weeks. She grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma and graduated from Central High School. Joyce studied Commercial Art at Oklahoma State University.

Before marriage Joyce raised Champion Collies and entered them in many dog shows. Her dogs were entered several times at Madison Square Garden in New York City where here they won best in their class.

As a young lady Joyce belonged to the Tulsa Riding Club where she enjoyed English riding on her Tennessee walker.

Joyce accompanied her father several times to the oil patch to witness a gusher come in. Summers she accompanied her father to Colorado where he had mining interest.

Joyce married her sweet heart Larry King on Friday, February 13, 1957. On their 50th anniversary they were married in the Church where her two sons walked her down the aisle witnessed by a packed congregation. Their sons paid for their mother and fathers honey moon to enjoy a week in Branson, Missouri.

Joyce was employed by the Dallas Morning News as a senior artist while Larry attended Perkins School of Theology at SMU. After Larry’s graduation they returned to Oklahoma City where Joyce was employed by the Oklahoman as senior artist. Joyce won many awards not only for her commercial art but also for her Fine Art.

Joyce is survived by her husband Reverend Larry of the home, two sons Forrest King and wife Shelly of Phoenix, Arizona; John and wife Genesta of Ponca City; grandsons Alec, Forrest and Seth, granddaughter Journey and great grandson Forrest.

Rosary will be held on Wednesday, Jaunuary 7, 2015, 7:00 pm at Trout Funeral Chapel. The funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am Thursday, January 8, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Ratterman officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
