Obituary for John Park

John Franklin Park of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Tuesday evening, October 28, 2014, in the Integris Hospice House in Oklahoma City at the age of 92 years.

John Franklin Park was born on March 23, 1922, in Billings, Oklahoma, to John Wallace and Stella Pearl (Shafer) Park. He grew up and attended Billings Public Schools until 1933 when he moved with his family to Blackwell. He graduated from Blackwell High School in 1940. In September, following his education, he entered the United States Army and served during World War II with the 189th Field Artillery Battalion. He was honorably discharged on July 2, 1945. Upon returning to Blackwell he began working as a driller for the Dave Morgan Oil Company. He married Marcine Gaylor on May 23, 1948, in Blackwell and he continued working in the oilfields until 1960 when he became the owner of Dairy Queen. His wife preceded him in death on December 14, 1979. He continued to operate the business until 1980 when he retired. He married Ruby Shackelford on September 15, 1982, and they made Blackwell their home. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Blackwell. He also held membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2855 and the American Legion Post 7 in Blackwell. He enjoyed playing golf and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Park of Blackwell; a son, Alan Shackelford and wife Angel of Blackwell; two grandchildren, Angela Kay and husband Jeremy of Blackwell, and James Seals and wife Doh-lee of Ft. Lewis, Washington; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Perry and Bill; and three sisters, Opal, Helen and Bessie.

Services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Saturday, November 1st in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Koch of the First Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Donnie Hall, Jon Anderson, Cecil Stuever, Dennis Kelly, Jeremy Kay and John Utech.
