John William Hron, IV

October 20, 1947 – August 12, 2017

John William Hron, IV, age 69, life long resident of Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday, August 12, 2017 in Oklahoma City surrounded by his family.

John was born on October 20, 1947 to John William Hron, III and Karolyn Cuzalina Hron in Ponca City, OK.

John went through the Ponca City school system graduating in 1965. From there he went on to Oklahoma State University graduating with a BS in Business in 1969. Upon graduation, he went to work at Continental Oil Company in Production & Pipeline Accounting. After a year, he furthered his education by entering the University of Oklahoma Law School in the fall of 1970. He passed the Oklahoma Bar in 1973 and joined the firm of Burdick & Clark in 1974. In 1976 he and Guy Clark entered Northcutt Law Firm. At the time of his death he was still practicing law with the firm. He was well respected for his vast knowledge in abstract and title law. During his career he was Past President of the Kay County Bar Association.

On February 7, 1977 he married Deborah Joyce Edwards in Ponca City. A year later they had their son John William Hron V.

J.B. had a huge passion for golf!!! His father and grandfather taught him how to play the game at an early age. While playing golf in Junior High & High School, John won numerous tournaments throughout the state. Later in life, John won the Ponca City Country Club Men’s Club Championship on three separate occasions. He also competed in the Cherokee Strip Golf Classic numerous years, a tournament which his grandfather Cuzalina helped create, with his team winning on several occasions. He even got to enjoy playing in the Cherokee Strip with his son, who played as their Professional. He partnered with Bruce Newman for many years in the P.C.C.C. Fourball Match Play Championship winning the title several time, once beating his son for the Championship.

J.B. was a tremendous fan of all OSU sports, holding season football tickets for decades. You could often see John showing his support for the Cowboys by his OSU golf bag or OSU clothing.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Deborah Hron of the home, son John William Hron, V and wife Jill of Bartlesville, grandson Daylon Carse, mother, Karolyn Hron of Ponca City, sister Suzy Hron of Ponca City cousins (more like siblings), Toni Gibson of Ponca City, Bobby Gibson and wife Dayna of Ponca City, and Adam Gibson of Grove, OK.

John was preceded in death by his father John William Hron III and in laws Ralph and Alice Edwards.

Friends and loved ones may pay their respects at the funeral home from 5-8pm Tuesday, August 15, and from 8am-8pm Wednesday, August 16, with the family available to greet friends from 6-7:30pm. A funeral ceremony to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, August 17, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Mike Smith and Pastor Larry Stuart officiating. Following the ceremony, he will be laid to rest at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Casket bearers will be Alan Pollock, Chuck Coatney, Guy Clark, Bruce Newman, Rod Alexander, and Scott Varner. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Po-Hi Golf Team or Northeastern State University Golf Team.
