Obituary for Jerry McClung

Jerry McClung Sr., lifetime resident of Ponca City, OK passed away, Monday February 17, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was 68 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, February 20, 2014 at the First Christian Church with Tom Howard officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.

Jerry was born on March 8, 1945 to John McClung and Ruby Elizabeth (Leatherman) McClung in Ponca City, OK.

Jerry married Judy Gardner in 1965, although they divorced, they remained lifelong friends.

Jerry was in the National Guard and he was a pressman for the Ponca City Newspaper from 1966 – 1980, then went to work at Conoco as a janitor from 1980-1993. He returned to the Ponca City Newspaper from 1994 – 2009 when he retired. He was a member of the First Christian Church and for a few years drove the bus and brought people to the Friendship Feast.

Jerry never met a stranger, he would talk to anyone, and anyone he talked to loved him and could see what a kind man he was. He was always the type of person who would do anything for anybody. He loved to spend time with his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. His hobbies included fishing and tinkering with cars and building things. He loved animals. Jerry also loved go to the casino, his dream was always to hit something big.

He is survived by five children, son, Jerry McClung Jr. of Ponca City, daughter, Samantha Leon and her husband Louie of Ponca City, son Steve McClung of Ponca City, daughter, Wendy Hall and her husband Roger of Ponca City, daughter, Shelly Lynch and her husband Ken of Register Georgia, sister, Joan Hey and husband Lester of Midwest City, sister Joyce Amyx and husband Jack of Lawton, brother John McClung and wife Pat of Reno Nevada, sister Jeanne Allen and husband Floyd of Ponca City, 12 grandchildren, Justin McClung, Garrett McClung, Jessica McClung, Desiree Root, Kyle Leon, Nina Leon, Christopher McClung, Morgan McClung, Brandon Standifer, Alexis (Lexy)Hall, Jakob Hall and Kurtis Gorre, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Jerry is preceded in death by his father John McClung and his mother Ruby Leatherman McClung.

Casketbearers will be Brandon Standifer, Kyle Leon, Jakob Hall, Chris McClung, Terry Smith, Tony Smith. Honorary Casketbearers will be Kurtis Gorre, Justin McClung, Garrett McClung, William Root, Gabe Reyes.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Friendship Feast or the Mission.
