Herman J “Maestro” Moore

December 27, 1942 ~ December 31, 2019 (age 77)

Herman J “Maestro” Moore passed away Tuesday evening, December 31, 2019, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, four days after his 77th birthday. Herman was born on December 27, 1942 to Arbery and Odella (Coburn) Moore also in Ponca City, Oklahoma.

Herman grew up in the Ponca City area and obtained his education at the Attuck’s School graduating in 1960. When he was about 15 years old, Herman found his love of riding horses. He enjoyed it so much that he became a professional Jockey and traveled all over the country riding many a winning horse. Herman was “a little light in the britches” when he started out, so much so, they had to add waist weights to him so he would meet the required weight. Herman stayed active in the industry all his life. He eventually transitioned from riding to training. He trained the horses and the Jockey’s, sharing his knowledge and giving helpful tips to the next generations. Herman was a member of the Remington Park Horse Trainer Association and the Jockey Club. He was still a trainer and owner at Remington Park when he passed.

Herman didn’t spend all his time with the horses, he made plenty of time and lots of memories with his family. He was always busy with something. He would go fishing or could be found reading a good book. Herman was full of life and always had a smile and laugh to share. He would tell jokes to anyone that would listen, even to the very end. He was a man of joy and love who wanted to share with those around him.

To cherish Herman’s memory are his daughters; Yolanda Bolden and Hermalynda Moore-Green, grandchildren; Victoria Bolden, Valarie Bolden, Tristen Green and Bryce Green, his friend; Marsha Crilly, sister; Oletha Collins, along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; May Moore, sister; Florence Pollard, and brother; Henry Moore.

A Memorial Service will be held in Herman’s honor at 2pm on Sunday, January 5th, at Grace Memorial Chapel with Elder Elsworth Spate presiding. A meal will be provided at the Attuck’s Community Center following the service.
