Henry Gilberto Vicente

May 24, 1991 – May 29, 2018

Henry Gilberto Vicente, age 27, resident of Ponca City, passed away tragically Tuesday, May 29, 2018 in Oklahoma City.

A traditional Ponca tribal funeral ceremony will begin with a noon feast at the Ponca Tribal Center in White Eagle on Sunday, June 3, 2018 with Pastor Bruce Johnson of the Ponca Nazarene Church officiating. Following the ceremony, Henry will be laid to rest at the Ponca Tribal Cemetery northwest of White Eagle. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home Crematory.

Henry was born on May 24, 1991 to Anacleto Vicento-Castillo and Jennie Rose Collins in Ponca City. Henry was a descendant of the Sun Dance Priest George Giveswater, a Chief descendant of Ponca Tribal Chief Big Elk, as well as the Ponca singers and drum makers. Ponca City and White Eagle provided a background where Henry embraced the ways of the Ponca Tribe. Recognizing his ancestral heritage, Henry became involved in the traditions of the Ponca, participating in a number of Sweat Ceremonies, and was growing skilled in bead work. Naturally, as a part of his observance of these traditions, Henry’s family was of great importance to him and he loved spending quality time with them. When Henry needed to express himself, he would do so by writing poetry. Henry loved music and listened intently to the lyrical perspectives of the songs playing.

Survivors include his beloved mother Jennie Rose Collins of Ponca City, father Anacleto Vicento-Castillo of Dallas, TX, paternal grandparents: Celia Castillo-Torres and Gilberto Vicente-Cervantes of Guerrero, Mexico, brothers: Wesley Collins of Ponca City, Justin Collins of Ponca City, Michael Vicente, Louis Vicente, and Ryan Vicente, all of Dallas, TX, uncles: Bruce Collins, Robert Collins, Jason Buffalohead, Pete Buffalohead, Mark Collins, and James LeClair.
