Glydene McDonald

October 2, 1942 – September 8, 2015

Glydene Kay McDonald, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at her home. She was 72 years of age.

Glydene was born October 2, 1942 in Vinita, Oklahoma, the daughter of Bennett Martin Kay and Dixie Gayle (Garrett) Kay. She was a 1960 graduate of Vinita High School and then attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She was married to James A. McDonald on March 28, 1961 in Stilwell, Oklahoma.

She was employed in earlier years as the contract workshop director and longtime volunteer at the Opportunity Center in Ponca City. In the mid 1980’s Glydene was the first recipient of Oklahoma’s Employee of the Year for Vocational Programs, presented by former Governor George Nigh. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church where she and her husband had taught the special needs Sunday School Class. Glydene was always ready to serve others and lived by ”The Golden Rule”. (So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets) Matthew 7:12 ESV

She is survived by her husband, James, of the home; one daughter, Kellie Hutto of Franklin, Tennessee; one son, Patrick McDonald and friend Lora Jones, of Garland, Texas; five grandsons, Benjamin Hutto and partner Kara, Brian Hutto, Samuel Hutto, Austin McDonald and Jonathan McDonald; one great grandson, Levi Coale Hutto; one brother, Martin B. Kay of Vinita, Oklahoma; one sister, Benna Jo Bivins and husband John, of Claremore, Oklahoma; one sister-in-law, Dona D. Brown of Midwest City, Oklahoma; Glydene was also the godmother of Fletcher Meister Johnson and Morgan Meister Murry; other extended family and many many friends; and special friends Betty Janssen Diamond, Louise Locke, Michele Baskin and Jan McKay who are just like family to Glydene and James.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Kimberly McDonald.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2015 at Grace Memorial Chapel.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 12, 2015 in the First Baptist Church Chapel, 218 South 6th Street, Ponca City. Associate Pastor French McLemore will be the presiding minister. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
