August 17, 1949 – August 12, 2018

Ponca City resident, Gil Morris, 68, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.

The family will be at Grace Memorial Chapel on Wednesday from 6pm to 8pm to receive friends. Funeral services will be 10:00am Thursday, August 16, 2018 at the First Baptist Church with his nephew Pastor Russell Hughes and Pastor Michael Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairfax City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church 218 S. 6th, Ponca City, OK 74601 or Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 445 Fairview Ave., Ponca City, OK 74601. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.

Gil was born August 17, 1949 in Pawnee, Oklahoma to Gilbert Forrest Morris Jr. and Georgie Merlene (Johnson) Morris. He graduated from Ralston High School in 1967 where he was an All-State Basketball player. On September 23, 1967 he married Sandra Jean (Trisdale) in Fairfax, OK. Soon after, he joined the United States Air Force. After his 4-year stint in the military, he attended Northern Oklahoma Jr. College where he played basketball for 2 years. As a young man with a young family, he worked various jobs before ultimately becoming a funeral director. He serviced the Ponca City area at Grace Memorial Chapel for over 30 years before retiring in 2015. After retiring, he and Sandy enjoyed their many adventures with Carl and Sherry traveling to Branson and going out on their pontoon. He also kept himself busy by traveling from gym to gym watching his grandchildren play basketball, and playing golf with his buddies.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his wife, Sandy Morris, of the home, 2 sons; Loy Morris and wife Casey of Shawnee, Scott Morris and wife Summer of Enid, grandchildren; Chase Morris, Tanner Morris, Bryce Morris, Brennan Morris, and Avery Morris, his mother; Merlene Morris of Stillwater, 2 sisters; Patricia Chaffin and husband Bill of Raytown, MO, and Pam Felix and husband Red of Pawnee, brother and sister in law Carl and Sherry Hughes of Fairfax, and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
