Gerald Mitchell of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Thursday, October 19, 2017, in the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home in Blackwell at the age of 87 years.

Gerald L. Mitchell of Blackwell, Oklahoma, passed away on October 19, 2017. He was born on Dec 16, 1929 in Blackwell General Hospital, the son of Eldee Leroy and Gladys Mitchell. He grew up in the area between Blackwell and Ponca City and moved to Blackwell in 1946. In 1948, he joined the Navy and spent four years aboard the U.S.S. Missouri, being discharged in 1952. He worked at Boeing in Wichita, and Conoco in Ponca City, and retired in 1990. He became a member of the Church of Christ in 1992 and was a loyal member. On June 8, 1993, Gerald married Velma Wilkins Fox in Alva, Oklahoma. They spent twenty winters of their married life going to Port Aransas, Texas, where he enjoyed fishing. He worked for local farmers until 2000, then worked for Shepherd carwash until 2014.

Gerald is preceded in death by his parents, and son, Eugene Mitchell.

He is survived by his loving wife Velma of the home; children, Dorothy Mitchell of New York, Debora and Mike Petrie of Texas, Sherry and John Pulis of Texas, Donna and Larry Haverstock of Oregon, Mike and Julie Fox of Kansas, and Karen and Rick Cupp of Alaska. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 27th at the Church of Christ in Blackwell, Oklahoma with Minister Lanny Jobe officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
