Georgia Ball

February 23, 1928 – April 4, 2018

Georgia Hicks Ball passed away in Ponca City, OK on April 4, 2018. She was born on February 23, 1928 in Three Sands, OK, the daughter of Meryl Johnson Hicks and Everette M. Hicks.

After graduating from Woodward High School in 1946, she began working with the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission in Woodward. She later transferred to the Ponca City office where she remained until her retirement in 1983.

In 1961, Georgia married Charles Haxel and they remained together until his passing in 1970. In 1971, she married Gary Ball, sharing 16 years together until his passing in 1987.

After Gary’s death, she began working at several retail stores in downtown Ponca City. She enjoyed this work due to the wonderful people for whom she worked and the friends she made.

She loved her family and was very faithful to them. Her love for animals inspired her to volunteer for the Ponca City Humane Society. She was president of that organization at the time that the money was raised to build the shelter. She was also a volunteer for the Pioneer Woman Museum.

Georgia was a life-long member of the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, and most recently the Woodlands Christian Church where she was very active until only recently.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Meryl and Everette Hicks, her loving step-mother, Helen Hicks, sister, Betty Main, and brother, Bill Hicks.

She is survived by her sister, Anne Hadaway of Brunswick, GA, sister-in-law, Pat Hicks of Ponca City, OK, step-daughter, Joann Cleary of Norman, OK, nieces; Toni Waters of Vega, TX, Vickie Fowler of Amarillo, TX, and Jennifer Hurley of Ponca City, OK, nephews; Geoff Hadaway, Douglas Hadaway both of Brunswick, GA and Kent Hicks of Chesterfield, MA, devoted friends, Jeanne and Ray Mustain of Grove, OK, and Aleta and Fred Wheelbarger of Moore, OK.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Monday, April 9, 2018 at Woodlands Christian Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory.

Memorial donations may be made to Woodlands Christian Church 1400 E. Hartford Ave., Ponca City, OK 74604 and Ponca City Humane Society, 900 W. Prospect, Ponca City, OK 74601.
