George William Helton, Jr., resident of Ponca City, passed away on February 12, 2018 in Ponca City, Oklahoma at the age of 83.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Central Baptist Church with Pastor John Waterloo officiating.

George was born on September 16, 1934 to George W. Helton, Sr. and Cleo (Sherron) Helton in Ponca City. Growing up, he attended St. Mary’s School. While in high school he found an enthusiasm for basketball that would continue throughout his life. Upon completion of high school, he served his country in the US Army from 1954 to 1956, still playing basketball at that time. Even after getting settled back into Ponca City, he would continue to play in the YMCA league. Later, George started working as a machinist for Ponca Machine.

It was on May 29, 1958 that he married Anna Margaret Mock. George and Anna attended Central Baptist Church, and he drove a church bus to pick up children for both Sunday school and church. He passed on his knowledge and passion for sports by coaching little league for both basketball and baseball. George had an interest in auto mechanics and actually raced stock cars. He enjoyed horseback riding on many a trail ride, serving as president of the Ponca Trailblazers, and even raced quarter horses. George could still appreciate a slower pace as well, taking great pleasure in raising a garden at their home.

He is survived by his wife of the home, Anna Helton, daughter, Deborah Jordon and husband Keith, son, Darrel Helton and wife Carrie, grandchildren; Ryan, Aaron, Caleb, Kendra, Jessica, Jacody, Jacie, Sam, Cierra, Collin, great-grandchildren; Emma, Jocelyn, Lainey, Peyton, Raylee, Erika, Chassis, Royce, and Kitana.

George was preceded in death by a son, David George Helton, his parents, sister, Ethel Langloys, nieces Brenda Cramer, Marla Cramer, mother-in-law, Margaret Mock, father-in-law, Earl Mock and brother-in-law Hugh Mock.
