Obituary for Gary Aebi

Gary Lynn Aebi

August 24, 1946 – August 28, 2022

Gary Lynn Aebi, loving husband, dad and papa was born on August 24, 1946, and left this world for his new home in Heaven on August 28, 2022.

Gary Lynn Aebi was born in Enid, Oklahoma to Carl Aebi and Laverna (Schmitz) Aebi and grew up on a farm west of Jefferson, Oklahoma. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1964, as a part of the last graduating class. After graduation he attended barber college in Tulsa, Oklahoma making many trips back home to see Barbara.

On October 23, 1965, he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Ann West at the Methodist church in Jefferson, Oklahoma. They made their home in Medford, Oklahoma where he worked as a barber at Paul’s Barber Shop until he opened his own shop, which he ran for about 10 years. He went on to work for Conoco, before going to work for the Grant County Soil Conservation District, retiring in 2008. He also farmed and raised cattle many years throughout his career.

Anyone that knew Porky knew they could always count on him to lend a helping hand when he saw anyone in need. Didn’t matter if that meant dragging snow off driveways in the middle of winter, pulling grandkids out of the mud in the middle of the night, helping a neighbor catch cattle, or fixing a gate after the new kid in town hooks it with his disc; Gary would be there.

Gary always enjoyed hunting and fishing with his buddies and especially loved it once his son and his friends could go along.

He volunteered as an EMT for the Medford ambulance service for several years. As a member of the Medford Jaycees, he supervised many teen hops.

He was often found chasing children, grandchildren, and even great grandchildren to their multiple activities and sporting events.

He was a dedicated coffee shop BSer and could usually be seen driving around checking to make sure everything was still in order and just trying to be a good ol’ boy in general.

You never knew for sure what was going to come out of his mouth but you could always count on it to be genuine, sincere, and usually bring a smile to those around.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Laverna Aebi.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Aebi; children, Sheila Buck and husband T.D., Alysia Aebi Keller and Ryan Aebi and wife Becky; brothers, Delvin Aebi (Mary Ann), Charles Aebi and Bob Aebi; grandchildren, Tyler, Kaitlyn, Trystin, Ryleigh, McKenzie, Brayden, Jacelyn, Caden, Kenleigh and Ryker; great-grandchildren, Tegan, Mason, Raina, Paisley, Collins, Walker, Easton, and one more on the way.

A celebration of Gary’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 5, 2022 at Medford United Methodist Church, 123 N. 2nd St. with Kateena Roberts officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
