Erna Lois (known as “Bucky” to family and friends alike) was born in Malone, Texas on December 3, 1934 to Charlie and Elsie Menix. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to west Texas. Bucky was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and her faith played a large role throughout her life. She attended school from 1st-8th grades before leaving to help her large family on the farm. Family meant the world to her and she was very close to her eight siblings, their spouses and families. Bucky believed in education and completed her GED as an adult later in life and even completed some college classes.

Bucky married Ben Huse on December 30, 1950 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sparenburg. They were blessed with four children: Debra, Karen, Russell, and Paula. Ben farmed, and Bucky worked as a cook and seamstress. She was well known around the area for her skills that she had honed since childhood. They were both active in their church.

Ben and Bucky moved to Graham, Texas in 1975 where Bucky began a new phase of her life, working in factories. Starting at Mr. Fine’s sewing factory, Graham Magnetics, and later Hexcel where she was extremely proud to have been chosen to work on the top-secret Stealth bomber project.

Ben passed away in 1991 shortly after their 40th wedding anniversary. Bucky eventually moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma to be closer to her children. She opened a quilting shop with her daughter Paula in 2005 which they operated until shortly before her passing.
