Eileen Spellman

September 13, 1935 – December 2, 2021

Eileen Mueller Spellman passed away peacefully on December 2, 2021 at the age of 86. Eileen was born on September, Friday the 13th, 1935 in Saginaw, Michigan to Max and Mary (Irwin) Mueller. Eileen’s mother passed away suddenly when Eileen was 7, and soon thereafter she gained a beloved step-mother, Mary Bailes, who cared for her and her siblings. Due to her father’s job as a chemical engineer, the family moved frequently and Eileen lived in many places by the end of high school. Eileen graduated from Belvidere High School, New Jersey in 1953. She went on to Notre Dame of Maryland University in Baltimore and graduated in 1957 with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology.

Eileen was working in Memphis when she was introduced to the love of her life, Fred George, on a blind date on February, Friday the 13th in the pouring rain. Fred asked Eileen out because he liked her Irish name and their first date was bowling. Fred and Eileen were married 4 months later on June 20, 1959 at St Therese the Little Flower Catholic Church in Memphis, Tennessee. Shortly after their wedding, Fred was deployed with the Navy.

Eileen and Fred were blessed with three children and being married to a Naval Aviator was exciting. Eileen and the family got to travel all over the world, including 5 states and 2 different countries. In their spare time they enjoyed bowling and square dancing together. She and Fred continued to travel after his retirement.

Eileen was a selfless volunteer. She spent many years volunteering for the Navy Relief Society, giving back to our military men and women. She was involved as a Den Mother for many years while her sons were in Cub Scouts and as a Girl Scout Leader helping Cadets and Senior Girl Scouts, including her daughter. She became a Patient Volunteer for Hospice of North Central Oklahoma after moving to Ponca City. She assisted patients and their families for 25 years. Eileen loved her church, St. Mary’s, and worked as a volunteer delivering communion to the shut-ins and was involved in the Rosary group.

Eileen is survived by her children Fred Max (Nicole), and Kathleen (Jeff); daughter-in-law Rachel; her grandchildren Carter, Sarah, Stephanie, and Andrew; and sister, Regina. Eileen is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 60 years, Fred; brother, Max; and son, Stephen.
