Obituary for Edith Hobbs

Edith Marie Hobbs, 91, passed away on May 29, 2015, at Ponca City Nursing & Rehab Center. She lived there for the last eight years.

She was born in Gainesville, TX, on April 17, 1924 to Marvin and Nola (Miller) Manering. They moved to Ponca City in 1934. Edith graduated from Ponca City High School in 1942. She married Jim Hobbs in 1943 and had two children, David and Cheryl. She worked as a secretary for Jefferson Elementary School and East Jr. High for many years. Her favorite job was being a homemaker and had many family dinners. Edith loved having fun and being with her family. She and Jim traveled all over the United States in their campers. They started out with a Shasta trailer and then bought an Airstream trailer, which they went to Alaska and Canada in. They were part of the Conestoga Camping Club & the Airstream Club. Her favorite was camping at Fun Valley in Colorado every summer. She loved cooking, reading and helping anyone who needed her. Her brothers, Eldridge and Jesse, were very dear to her and she loved having them pop in to visit her anytime they could. She was extremely loved and cherished by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Hobbs of Winfield, KS; daughter-in-law, Leanne Neidig and husband Dale of Ponca City; brothers, Eldridge Manering and wife Maxine of Ponca City, Jess Manering and wife Barbara of Laporte, TX; sister-in-law, Lois Woodard of Jefferson, IA; grandchildren, Kelli Pelak and husband Chris of Republic, MO, Tami Burke and husband Chris of Edmond, OK, Chad Wasson and wife Melanie of Springfield, MO, Debra Cline and husband Steve of Georgetown, IN, Doralyn Mears and husband Anthony of Ponca City, and Dina Kleinmann and husband Tim of Ponca City; 18 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James, and son, David.

Because they took such wonderful care of Edith, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 445 Fairview Ave, Ponca City, OK 74601. Memorial contributions may also be made to an organization Edith supported called Brigid Collins Family Support Center, 1231 N. Garden Street, #200, Bellingham, WA 98225.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 5th at Albright United Methodist Church in Ponca City. The graveside service will be a private ceremony.
