Obituary for Ed Tapp

Edwin Charles “Ed” Tapp of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Friday morning, May 8, 2015, at his home at the age of 63 years.

Edwin Charles “Ed” Tapp was born on February 5, 1952, in Enid, Oklahoma, to Virgil Lee and Mary Charlene (Walker) Tapp. He grew up in Kay County attending Union School and Braman Public Schools graduating from Braman High School in 1970. He furthered his education by attending Oklahoma State University, Northwestern Oklahoma State University and the University of Central Oklahoma. He married Betty Jean LeValley on August 2, 1969, in Braman. Ed worked for Conoco-Phillips for thirty-three years retiring as a production supervisor. He attended the Braman Methodist Church and held membership in the Blackwell Men’s Golf Association and Conoco Employees Association. He loved spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren at their various sporting and academic activities. He also enjoyed playing golf, grilling and cooking. He was an avid fan of the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Denver Broncos and the St. Louis Cardinals.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Tapp of Blackwell; his father, Virgil Tapp and wife Shirley of Enid, Oklahoma; three daughters, Tammy Clark and husband Max of Kingman, Kansas, Tonya Bales and husband Patrick of Bixby, Oklahoma, and Tiffany Johnson of Blackwell; a brother, Mike Tapp and wife Sherri of Ponca City; a sister, Susan Bowman and husband Jim of Aurora, Colorado; three granddaughters, Betsy Bales of Bixby, Ashley Maiava and husband Grant of Weston, Missouri, and Abby Clark of Parkville, Missouri; and five grandsons, Ethan Bales of Bixby, Eli and Gavin Johnson of Blackwell, Andrew Clark of Kansas City, Missouri, and Alex Clark of Annapolis, Maryland.

His mother; an infant son, Brad Allen Tapp; and his father and mother-in-law, Gerald and Mabel LeValley, preceded him in death.

A memorial service is scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 12th in the Braman Methodist Church with Rev. C. M. Wilson officiating.

Honorary casket bearers will be Ed’s co-workers from Conoco/Phillips 66 Refinery.
