Obituary for Dorothy Impson

Dorothy L. Impson, Ponca City resident and former resident of Tonkawa, passed away on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014. She was 90. A service will be held at 10am on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014 in the chapel of the Trout Funeral Home with Rev. Larry B. Metzger, officiating and Rev. Roberta Shaffer, assisting, both of First Christian Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Trout Funeral Home and Crematory.

Dorothy Lee Moore, the daughter of Ernest and Helen (Ensley) Moore, was born in Tonkawa on June 19, 1923. She grew up in Tonkawa and graduated from Tonkawa High School in 1941. While performing as Tonkawa High Schools Drum Majorette, Dorothy was spotted from the crowd by Dennis Impson who said, "I am going to marry that girl."

On May 7, 1945 Dorothy and Dennis were married in Wichita, Kansas. After the war they moved to Tonkawa to work for her father, E.W. Moore at Moore’s Clothing. They made their home in Tonkawa for many years before moving the store to Ponca City in 1989. Dorothy and Dennis were blessed with twin boys. During this time, Dorothy stayed at home while her sons were growing up.

After her sons were grown, Dorothy joined Dennis at Moore’s Clothing Store. Whether it was bookkeeping or helping her customers find the right attire for an occassion, Dorothy greatly enjoyed working in all aspects of the family business.

Dorothy was a member of the First Christian Church of Ponca City. She will be greatly missed in the lives of many.

Family members include two sons; Ted Impson and wife Barbara of Ponca City, Fred Impson and his wife Debbie of New Jersey; grandchildren, Lori Impson of Tulsa, Jayne Swords of Ponca City, Sgt. 1st Class Andy Impson, Lisa Mundy and her husband John, Kristin Bayer and her husband Chris both of New Jersey, Cory Hoover and wife Darla of TX, Danielle Hoover and Ryan McLaughlin of CA and John Hoover of Tulsa; great-grandchildren, Kaden Swords, Jack Mundy, Grace Mundy and Caroline Mundy; cousin, Paul Moore and wife Shirley of Kansas; nephews, Stan Hollingsworth, David Hollingsworth and Kirk Hollingsworth. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dennis in 2006 and one sister, Pauline Hollingsworth.
