Obituary for Dorothy Henderson

Dorothy Mae Stratton Henderson, former resident of Ponca City, passed Wednesday, June 17, 2015, in Houston, Texas. She was 91 years of age.

Dorothy was born October 13, 1923, in Temple, Texas, the daughter of Joe Sidney and Lena (Cantrell) Vickers. She was a graduate of Ponca City High School, Class of 1941.

She was married to Jack Douglas Stratton until his death in 1947. She married George Bart Henderson on September 5, 1953. The family moved to Houston, Texas, in 1971.

She was employed as a Long Distance Operator with Southwestern Bell/AT&T for 42 years; and later by the Better Business Bureau of Houston, for 10 years. She was a member of the Communication Workers of America, and the Southwestern Bell/AT&T Telephone Pioneers.

She is survived by her husband, George Bart Henderson, of Houston, Texas; two sons, Michael Gene Stratton, and wife Lucinda, of Wichita, Kansas, and Howard Bart Henderson, and wife Linda, of Houston, Texas; one sister, Linda Powelson, of Blackwell, Oklahoma; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband Jack Douglas Stratton; one son, Danny Lee Stratton, and one brother, Joe Vernon Vickers.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at Grace Memorial Chapel, Sunday evening, June 21st, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 22, 2015 at the Ponca City I.O.O.F. Cemetery. The Rev. Dennis Wildman will preside over the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
