Doris Leah Cline

Doris Leah Dollison Cline, age 97, former Ponca City resident, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2017 in Oklahoma City.

Friends and loved ones may pay their respects at the funeral home from 1pm-8pm Sunday, May 21. A funeral ceremony to celebrate her life will be held at 1:00pm Monday, May 22, at Northeast Baptist Church, 2200 N. Pecan Road, Ponca City, OK 74604 with Dr. Larry Nigh officiating. Following the ceremony, she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Herbert, at the Longwood Cemetery east of Ponca City. Casket bearers will be Phil Cline, Kelsey Cline, Devin Cline, Matt Cline, Chris Cline, and Marc Cline. Honorary casket bearers are Kevin McDugle, Kyle Cline, Damon Webb, and Norman McDugle.

Doris was born on May 4, 1920 to James Dollison and Dora Derringer Dollison on the family farm northwest of Davenport, OK. She was the fourth of five children. Her early life on the farm was simple, but hard. Drawing water from their well, using kerosene lamps and cooking on a wood stove were all part of her daily routine.

On March 12, 1940, Herbert James and Doris Leah were married in Cushing, Ok. On November of 1946, while pregnant with her 4th child, Doris was saved and baptized at the First Baptist Church in Drumright, OK. Going to church became a priority for her family. She ensured her children were taught right from wrong according to God’s instruction book, the Bible. Sunday afternoons were highlighted with a family dinner, lovingly prepared by Doris. It often consisted of fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, dessert and all the fixings. Most of the vegetables were picked from the family garden.

Doris went to school until the 8th grade. After having 7 children, Doris returned to school and obtained her GED at 56 years old.

For a while Doris became a cafeteria worker for East Side Junior High School in Ponca City. As her husband grew older and had health concerns, Doris cared for him with the love she promised on their wedding day, visiting him daily after he was placed in the nursing home near their house. After he passed away and she had time to heal, Doris, a charter member, became more active in Northeast Baptist Church volunteering there as well as for the Dept. of Human Services making quilts for displaced children, helping her church with the Friendship Feast, assisting at The Caboose, My Favorite Things and the Senior Center. Great joy came from cooking for her friends and family on the holidays, traveling, making quilts, and doing any hand needlework. Israel, Europe and a cruise to Alaska were highlights of Doris’s travels.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers: James Dollison of Davenport, OK, Charles “Buster” Dollison, of Kensington, KS, and sister, Violet Lynch of Davenport, OK.

Survivors include her beloved seven children: Glenda Webb of Oklahoma City; Herbert Larry Cline and his wife Debbie of Dallas, TX; Phillip Cline of Tulsa, OK; Nova McDugle and her husband Norman of Cleveland, OK; David and his wife Connie Cline of Mustang, OK; Jerry and his wife Patty Cline of Broken Arrow, OK; and Jimmy Cline and his wife Bernadette of Mustang, OK. Sister, Naoma Langwell, of Chandler, OK, thirteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Northeast Baptist Church, 2200 N. Pecan Road, Ponca City, OK 74604.
