Obituary for Dordilee Roy Furr

Surrounded by his loving family, Roy Furr passed away from this life on Tuesday evening, January 7, 2014 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 82.

Roy was born August 30, 1931 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Annis and Helene Smith Furr. He attended grade school and high school in the Muskogee area and graduated from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. He met the love of his life, Arlene Brown, in 1948 and they married on August 22, 1951. Their union was blessed with 4 daughters, 1 son, 10 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren, Roy and Arlene lived in Buhler, Kansas until 2007 when they moved to Ponca City to be closer to family. In Ponca City, Roy was active in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, was a volunteer at Ponca City Medical Center and worked two days each week for Peachtree Landing. He enjoyed volunteering for various groups in Ponca City and was always eager to lend a helping hand.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years Arlene, son Roy Dean, two infant grandchildren and his sister Laverne Williams. Roy lived a full life and will be remembered as a man who loved and cherished his family.

He is survived by daughters Patti and Bert Stark, Oklahoma City; Paula Slater and Michael Winkelman, Ponca City; Jacci and Mike Pine, Kansas City, KS; Kris Furr, Kansas City, MO and their families.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. with services following at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the Northeast Baptist Church, 2200 North Pecan in Ponca City at the direction of Trout Funeral Home, Ponca City. A graveside service will be held in Buhler, Kansas on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at the Buhler Cemetery under the direction of Buhler Mortuary.
